An extract for the book again.

Bitterness that adds the poison to every uttered word drips from their tongues as she enters. A grim cloud casts over their faces when she comes into view. The atmosphere is heavy with the evil it surrounds and each of the guest’s eyes is fixed on her. As she walks towards the centre of the room, they whisper amongst themselves. She notices this but does not hesitate; instead with each whisper her steps become more arrogant, adding a buoyant quality to her presence. She certainly is one to look at with her soft brown curls gently set in a bun at the back of her neck, with a few stray curls cast loosely on her bare shoulders. Her face is set in a smug yet pleasing smile that compliments the gentle blush on her cheeks. As she reaches the centre of the room her deep honey coloured eyes sparkle with a mischief so many have forgotten along with their childhood. As she stands she nervously fixes her hair, then her sapphire dress re-arranging its skirt. Her skin has a paler tone to it tonight, in contrast to the deep midnight blue of her dress and with the tender blush on her cheeks adds a polished superiority to her. No one speaks and they stand waiting from some movement, a sign, someone to say something, anything. Yet it is as if they have frozen, the champagne in their hands raised half way towards their mouths. The women eye her with envy like tigresses’, the protectiveness feeding off their own insecurities. Her lips part slowly and words inviting them to dance float in the air for a moment. Then the frozen image shatters and the party breathes life with the chattering, drinking and the guests dancing.

Coming Back to Earth...

Sometimes we are so focused on achieving a goal or a target that we forget to focus on the steps that we need to take in order to get us there. We see ourselves fantasising about being in the moment when we have achieved the goal, we imagine what it would be like, how we would feel and try imagining the experience of relief that comes with achievement. We focus our minds on the satisfaction and the success, detailing every aspect through rose tinted spectacles.

This is our mistake. We have forgotten that we have yet to take a step towards achieving our goal and have not yet even set upon the path. Or we have fantasised over every aspect of success and fallen behind on the path. A vital blunder made by many but realised by very few until all the fantasies that were so intricately decorated with feelings of satisfaction and pride crash to the ground and our worlds seem to seep into the darkness of failure.

We get a very rude awakening that we dreamt of our success so much that we jinxed it ourselves. Dreams are shattered and the painful reality is faced with teary eyes and angry words. We feel cheated and cannot fathom how this came to be, but in our hearts we only know too well. If we are to correct our ways and reduce the fantasising and focus then we shall not face such a reality. The fantasising needs to be replaced with centring our minds on taking the steps on the path to success. Keep in mind the end goal but don’t think you’ve achieved it just yet, for it shall still be out of reach until you have hiked the long and arduous path towards it.
